McDonald's Workers Strike in the US

Workers of the McDonald's chain in the US have announced a possible strike. The reason for their discontent is the requirement to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.

The strike is planned for May 19, according to the activist website Action Network.

The strikes will be held in 15 major US cities. The largest strikes are expected in Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Detroit, and Chicago (this is where McDonald's US headquarters is located).

The activists explained their position in the statement: the workers should not wait until Congress decides to increase the minimum wage.

The enactment of the minimum wage law in the US relies on the federal and local governments. The management of the McDonald's chain has declared its readiness to enter into a discussion with disgruntled employees. This dialogue may well be conducted on the principle of equality.

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski halved his salary last April, amid the most stringent quarantine measures. Four other top managers of the fast food chain's global office followed suit and dropped their monthly income by 25%.
