Residence in Malta

In this case, permanent residence grants foreign citizens the following privileges:

• a chance to become a tax resident of the country;
• the right to permanently reside and work in Malta;
• the ability to travel to all Schengen member states without a visa.

There are only two main requirements for a candidate for permanent residence: the applicant must be over 18 years old and have a personal capital of at least EUR 500,000.

The process of obtaining permanent residence through investment is as follows:

• The applicant makes a non-refundable government contribution and buys or rents real estate:
• if the property is valued from EUR 350,000 or EUR 300,000 and is located, then the non-refundable contribution will be EUR 28,000;
• if the property is rented out and the annual amount of rental payments is from EUR 10,000 to 12,000, depending on the area, then the non-refundable contribution will be EUR 58,000.
• An individual pays an application administration fee of EUR 40,000 and makes a contribution to a local accredited charity of at least EUR 2,000.
• The applicant confirms financial solvency (net capital should be at least EUR 500,000) and gets a health insurance policy with coverage of at least EUR 30,000.

Relatives dependent on the main applicant must pay a contribution of EUR 7,500 for each family member (EUR 5,000 for children under 18).

The following additional requirements apply to program enrollees:

• no criminal record;
• due diligence check;
• medical examination.

Relatives of applicants up to the fourth generation (great-grandparents), unmarried couples, and unmarried children of any age can participate in the Malta Permanent Residence Program. The Maltese government does not require for mandatory physical stay in the country.
